Want to learn AutoCAD but don't know where to start? You don't need months — you need five focused days. This plan takes you from opening the software for the first time to printing your first complete drawing. Each lesson takes about one hour. Follow one lesson per day, practice what you learn, and by day five you will be drawing with confidence.
Day 1 — Master the Interface & Navigation
Before drawing anything, you need to feel at home in AutoCAD.
- Understand the ribbon, command line, and model space
- Learn to zoom, pan, and navigate with the mouse wheel
- Practice typing commands: type L for Line, C for Circle, then press Enter
- Set up your units (millimeters or meters — essential for engineering work in Lebanon)
Practice task: open a new drawing, navigate around, and type your first three commands.
Day 2 — The Essential Draw Commands
Today you create your first real geometry.
- LINE — the foundation of everything
- CIRCLE and RECTANGLE — with exact dimensions
- POLYLINE — connected lines that behave as one object
- Object snaps (OSNAP) — the secret to precise drawings: endpoint, midpoint, center
Practice task: draw a simple floor plan outline of your room with exact measurements.
Day 3 — Modify Like a Professional
Professionals don't redraw — they modify.
- TRIM and EXTEND — clean up intersecting lines
- OFFSET — create parallel walls in seconds
- MIRROR and COPY — never draw the same thing twice
- FILLET — perfect corners every time
Practice task: take yesterday's floor plan and add interior walls using OFFSET and TRIM only.
Day 4 — Layers, Dimensions & Annotation
This is what separates beginners from professionals.
- Create layers: walls, doors, dimensions, text — each with its own color
- Add dimensions with DIM — let AutoCAD measure for you
- Add text and labels with proper text styles
- Understand lineweights — why printed drawings look professional
Practice task: organize your floor plan into 4 layers and fully dimension it.
Day 5 — Layouts, Printing & Your First Complete Drawing
Time to produce something you can hand to a client or employer.
- Model space vs paper space — the concept every beginner struggles with
- Create a layout with a title block
- Set your viewport scale (1:50, 1:100)
- Plot to PDF — your first professional deliverable
Practice task: print your dimensioned floor plan to PDF at 1:100 scale with a title block.
What Comes After Day 5?
You now know more AutoCAD than most people who "tried it once." But real professional skill — 3D modeling, engineering workflows, Revit, and BIM — comes with structured training and feedback on your actual work.
That is exactly what we teach at Kon Mostakbalak Academy in Akkar, Lebanon. Our AutoCAD course and BIM Engineering Program take you from these basics to job-ready skills, with private online sessions and real projects.
